My case is similar and I can in fact write an "update".
Today, I wrote back to the MP officer "what if I had no travel plan?" If I am not travelling, I could not know when I would eventually get the passport. Maybe 2023, 8 months after or longer.
Everyone on earth can do a ton of things in 6/7/8 months. I could as well get a kid.
Maybe visit local office and see if they can help expedite??
Hi everyone.
Just a quick question, and asking just incase someone has some experience with this.
Applied for first time passport for my kiddo (12 years old). The original birthday certificate from a foreign country and not country of origin is lost. Please any pointers who anyone with a similar experience and still able to process their child’s passport to please share their experience.
Thanks
If the child is Canadian, there should be a Canadian citizenship certificate for the child if child was born outside Canada, or some sort of canadian pr if child was sponsored??
Its hard to know, what docs did u apply with? If birth certificate is lost try to get replacement etc from the consulate of that country or country of origin.
Your post is vague, can’t offer advice if we don’t know how/where you applied….

I already wrote earlier but anyway
1. the local office 2 weeks ago hanged up the call after saying it was too early to call (and not until mid Nov, 20 business days before my trip).
2. the above MP officer, I do thank him, is helping by doing calls. He was also under the idea that it could have happened on 21 Oct, but it didn't. If an MP's representative has no way to secure this, then the applicant, me, probably doesn't have the resort, either.
Elaboration below:
As strange as it sounds, in other words, they seem to like to procrastinate, or find it impossible to explain to me, when it only takes one appointment, one certain printing process, to finish this.
A lot of stuff could have been better with better communication. In fact, using an MP representative is not even ideal since I am no longer directly talking to this office that wouldn't talk to me. This is the epitome of public communication failure. The only clear thing I know is the local office has my case now, no longer Ottawa. They are not explaining anything (yet, if ever).
I can repeat. There is nothing to clarify about my case - my name, DOB, contact, references (all living in Canada and well), I have nothing going on with any agency/any court, nothing.
How many people from before April 30, 2022 are still waiting? Seriously?

Thank you and apologies for the vague post. Kiddo was born in South Africa and not Canada. Original birth certificate got lost years ago, we have a photocopy of it. We are applying for first time passport for all family. We are not South Africans. I was at the passport office yesterday and they said we would need the original copy.
I am just a bit confused about what to do. Currently at the passport office again today with my original marriage certificate. Fingers crossed.

7 months is a nightmare. I am sure we can get it before Dec.

I have an update. I was able to process my kiddos passport with a photocopy of his birth certificate. Thanks all.

Congratulations
i would however, advise u to get another original BC for the child, as they ask each time for childrens passport application
Get it and please keep all such important docs safe/secure.
Its great that it worked out for you!
Oh wow, wanted to check other's experiences to see where I'm at currently. It seems like the govt. now operates at ludicrous speeds.
From ON to QC (first time application, marked 46 days or more)

I hope everything goes well from now on. I'll write an update post once I receive the passport.
Citizenship Certificate received: Sep 27
I'm now waiting for my passport.
Received my passport today.
what probably happened was that your ups package was actually delivered but somehow they didn’t update system to delivered.
your credit card being charged should’ve alerted you that application made it to passport-canada office, and wasn’t lost.
you got your passport thats good, now wait for another delivery from xpresspost that will be your certificate returned.
get in touch with IRCC so that u don’t need new certificate as original is used to make passport! Maybe get it withdrawn via MP
oh and next time don’t use ups!!
Use fedex or canadapost Xpresspost
Or apply passport in person
incidents like this and long delays are reason why I never wanna mail a passport application and would rather apply in person at actual office
Hey, First of all, thank you so much for responding. Yeah, absolutely. I always use Fedex or Canada Post. This time, for some god forsaken reason, I used UPS as it was very close to my place. A big mistake, indeed!
Anyway, I already paid and attached the receipt with the application as there was an online payment option. so I did not have the choice of getting alerted and had to rely on UPS for delivery alerts
W.r.t Getting in touch with IRCC, whenever I call them at
1-888-242-2100, I am listening to their hold music for an hour or so and then it hangs up on me. I want to withdraw the application too once I confirm that the certificate is on its way.
What is the best number to reach them? Has anyone got lucky reaching them?
I mailed my application on May 13, they send me back my citizenship certificate in August. Today I called to check the status of my application and they told me my application is not processed yet because they need to talk with the references I used in the form PPTC 132, I applied without a guarantor. I talked with my 4 references and nobody called them in all these months (hard to believe that all of them missed the calls). The references they want to talk called them right away and respond all the questions.
Looks like my application is the last in the pile and they are doing nothing. How can I know they need to talk with the references if they don't call them or they don't call me? I don't understand anything.
Is it a good idea to fill up a complaint? should I be annoying I call tomorrow again?
Application Sent October 24
CC charged October 26
I put travel date November 28 and submitted a copy of my ticket along with the application
I'm hoping I'll get my passport before travel date

I had references but still it's all under processing. I had a long story in prior replies. What's different is I have no outstanding issue, the local office has my case, and a local MP's officer is doing calls for me.

so frustrating

Applied for passport from local service canada office on September 28, 2022. They told me I should be receiving my passport by October 28. Had a proof of travel on November 1. Called them on October 24 and my passport application was under review. I told them about travel and I was told to go pick up my passport on October 27 from the provincial passport office in Saskatoon.

May31: Received at Mississauga Passport office
Sept27: Called for an update, no significant updates given
Oct11: Called for an update, no significant updates given

Oct 28: Passport delivered to my home in Vancouver BC. (checked the tracking number from the Xpresspost package and saw that it was mailed from Mississauga on Oct 27)
