Thanks for the response. "Proof of need" seems vague, do you know what it includes?
Proof of Travel - Air Tickets
Proof of Need - In case you are driving to US, you will need to give a declaration of why you are travelling, if its for work you MAY need a letter from the employer. If its to visit family / vacation etc. a self declaration stating the same along with dates of travel, can be supported with hotel bookings if you have them.

So I guess planning on re-fueling the car just across the border doesn't count

Update:

I waited for a week and I had no news and my guarantor didn't receive any calls. So I decided to call them again today. I explained my situation, my travel at the beginning of September and that I called them last week.

The agent on the phone was very polite and told me that he could transfer it to my city and pay the fees (45$). What I found silly is that when they do the transfer it is not certain that the file will be accepted by the local office. I did receive a confirmation by email that the application transfer was requested.

They advised to wait for two weeks during which they would call me to give me a date to get my passport directly at the Passport Office. If they don't call me, I will have to go to the passport office 48h before my travel date (and pay the fees of course).

I don't have the capacity to know if my application will be transferred or not except the payment on my card. Or I can call them everyday and ask them if the application was transferred and treated.

I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!! but I can only bid my time until they call me for now.

don't worry, I was told the same thing and I got a call and was able to pick up my passport :)

How many days before travel date did you get the call? I requested the transfer almost 2 weeks ago and haven’t received any call yet. We’re traveling on Sep 3rd so I’m getting really anxious now.

I am not necessarily in a hurry but started to get a bit anxious as it is already 17 weeks.

Application delivered to Gatineau: April 26th
Cc charged: June 1st

I gave a call to 6868 number and was told my application was approved and moving to next steps. When I asked what are the next steps and how long it will take the agent was not giving straight answer but I would assume it would be printing and mailing of passport. Do anyone know how long the “next steps” take usually.

if I send my application via canadapost Xpresspost do I just leave my pictures, id, and birth certificate free floating in with my application?

Picked up the passport yesterday.

Applied first week of July via mail, credit card was charged after 2 weeks (mid July). Called them as travel date was coming up in next 30 business days and still needed to apply for visa. They transferred the file on 15Aug. On 17Aug, got a call to pick up the passport on 19Aug. Went to Mississauga office for pick up, only 15 people in line, I was in and out in 15min.

Not sure about other people’s experience but this process was super easy. It looks like they are getting better now and demand for passport is going down.

I applied on may 22nd at service Canada. Called in late July to transfer to local office ( Kitchener) due to upcoming trip on aug 25th. Just got a call today that file was transferred and I can pick up on Aug 24th.

Thanks for your input. My trip is in Dec so I wouldn't be surprised if mine comes as late as in November... But your success seems to suggest some hope for the rest of us.

Hi - did you have to provide any proof of travel or anything?and what time would you suggest going for the pick-up?
Also did they give you the certificate back as well?
Thanks

Called passport office again and luckily was able to talk to the same agent. He said all we can do is to initiate the transfer request and then local visa office has to accept it.

I did a mistake by selecting Sureey office as they have done nothing on my transfer request from the last few weeks.

I have almost completed 13 weeks and again the agent said :- 13 weeks from the date they have started to work on the application.

The whole process seems ****
