Withdrawal for 1 semester

I am an international student in Canada for almost 4 years, doing Bachelor of Engineering. In my first year I had a very bad GPA, which results in a withdrawal for one semester. After the one semester off I continued my study until now and right now I need to extend my visa and study permit. So my question is during that off semester if I stayed in Canada did I break any Immigration law in particular? During that semester I didn't do any work (because I didn't have any work permit) and all my living expenses was send by my sponsor.

I don't think anyone knows for sure.
1) Consult with an immigration consultant/lawyer.
2) Make sure you have solid documentation.
