Hi All!

So we sent our giant application off yesterday and couldn't feel better right now! It seriously feels like a giant weight lifted as it is now for the most part out of our hands!!!

We have some questions regarding passport request - what is this? I've seen many people say once their application is approved the visa office requests passports? Is that the passport of the sponsored spouse or both sponsor AND spouse? and why do they need the passport? If anyone can explain this I would appreciate it!

Also - My hubby lives in Seattle and his main border crossing is the Peace Arch from Blaine to Canada - when he gets his landing dates - can he just come up like he always does in his car and state he is landing? or does it have to be done at the airport or someplace like that. We usually take the bus down and up to each other so I was wondering is that something he can do when he buses up??

I feel like I'm an expert at the whole application putting-together aspect of it now but have no idea on the next steps :)

Thanks everyone!

He can "land" by foot, bicycle, car, bus, train, boat or plane.

Hey!

Congrats on getting the application done, and welcome to the waiting game!

passport request - for applicants that are non-visa exempt, they have to submit their passport, so the embassy issues a visa + a COPR ( confirmation of PR), and sends everything back together... so the airline will allow the applicant to get on a plane - airlines agents are trained to recognize visas, not COPR.

But since your husband is from a visa-exempt country, you most likely won't be asked to submit the passport ( and it's always the applicant only), most likely they will request a copy/scan of the passport, to make sure that they have the correct one, then they will send the COPR by post to his address. no need to submit the passport.

For landing - yes, as soon as your husband has his COPR in hand, he can drive to the crossing as he usually does, and when at the border, he just indicates that he wants to "land as a PR", and he will be taken aside. ASked a few questions, signs a few forms, and it's done! :-)

He can also do it with the bus, no problem - landing procedures can be done at any entry point into Canada ( I took the ferry to Port Angeles as I am in Victoria, and landed on the way back, when getting off the ferry). If he is already in Canada at that point, he can go to the border and "flagpole" - leave Canada, and re-enter to land. Very common ( that's what I did) and the border officers are very used to it.

Good luck for the process,
Sweden

Ahhhh thank you for all of this extremely helpful info! You rock!

Another question: my hubby is in school and working fulltime, he will be done his last class soon but will still need to sell all his apartment stuff and transfer to a new position in his company in Canada... When should he start doing that? Or how much time does he get once our application is approved to land? Will he be able to land and then go back to the US to wrap up loose ends or with this new conditional rule will he have to start living with me from the date he lands??

He will have 12 months from the date of the medical or the expiry of the passport, whichever comes first to "land" Yes, he can "land" and return to the US to clear up.
