@profiler funny that we talked about tv/internet. Videotron just called me... I think they reaaaally miss me... they offered me an internet package at a price that is difficult to refuse. I was with them for internet for 14 years! I switched in last December for another company that uses their signal but sells at about half the price. Now videotron offers me a better speed and more data for even less than I pay now!
There is a white windowed envelope here with "Canada" in yuuge letters in it addressed to my wife. "Case Processing Centre Sydney" visible through the window with what is obviously a "Get into Canada, free" card inside...

Anyway updates: Chinese consulate is being a pain in the arse... refuse to give a timeline for my sister's passport (because my sister has not been in China since the age of 2 so they "can't" easily verify her..meaning they are not nice to expat ). 2 long months have passed since we applied to renew it. Therefore we requested a waiver from CIC for the passport requirement or give additional time to wait for the slowpoke consulate. They approved the waiver and now we see Decision made on the sponsor side.... good or bad..time will tell
They requested additional proof of relationship, medical, police and FBI checks in May.
Everything but the police and FBI have been submitted.
I received an email today stating I have been approved as a permanent resident and will receive final confirmation once the FBI and police check have been received.
The letter also stated that I could now apply for an OWP if I had not already. I already did when my initial application was submitted in 2016.
Does this mean I will get my OWP in the mail shortly? The FBI check is going to probably be 2 to 3 months still.
Edit: I was out of status when I applied, but I don't believe that effects the OWP at this stage of the application.

After about 45 days of submission of cohabitation documents we received an email from IRCC confirming that the documents were attached to our file and forwarded to the office in charge of our application

Congratulations!! This is your AIP. They will start to consider your OWP application now, so my guess is that it will take 3-4 months to be approved. If you get your FBI check soon, you might land before getting your OWP.
