That, or you can have the lawyer draft you a letter (in English) that states that they are on record for filing a divorce for your partner. You could pass that into CIC via webform, and explain that you will need more time to complete that process. That you will submit the court order from that to CIC. Or have your rep do it.... really, they certainly should have demanded the divorce certificate before they even filled out paperwork. Feels like entrapment to me..

One member on this thread totally blew off their landing, because their representative apparently required mail-by-pigeon instead of a simple email. Anyway, they contacted AFTER the first appointment was missed (which they can assume that you don't want a PR anymore at that point), and gave a new date. Was about a week or so later if my remembery serves..

we mailed the application to Mississauga and in the middle the rep asked us try to send a notice(divorce application form 6)to hk see if his ex-wife can received it..and ofcoz she cannot,so we sent to my fd address and after mail it back, the rep told me that the canada divorce law just changed..we cannot do this to filed a divorce in canada anymore..we paid him and after we did a lot of work he said no..and now we decided to find any other lawyer do that for us

Yes i read about that member so had nothing to worry about. And then this friend called me this evening and told me about her and other indonesian friends experiences. Totally freaked me out.
So let's say i call them tomorrow morning to reschedule and if i don't hear from them or get a new date for more than a month, should i contact my MP?

Common sense dictates that Canada has no means or ability to grant divorces to marriages that occured in another state. I like to think we are that awesome, but reality is, even in Canada, the provinces have to grant divorces. A court in Nevada cannot grant a divorce to two people married in Ontario. It's the same for an Ontario court and Hong Kong.
To have a person who is representing himself as an immigration (consultant / lawyer), and not knowing that very, very simple fact is FRAUD. So you pay out the money to file ... well anyway..
The lawyer will just need to indicate they are representing your partner in Hong Kong for a divorce filing. If they can give any type of time line so CIC knows how long to suspend processing that will be helpful for you as well ...

That would mean you are dealing with families... You should at least know enough that IF you don't understand the rules of divorce, perhaps you should refer your client to someone who DOES.
