About the OCi process.....i got married in India so my marriage certificate is from India...do you know if they accept it as is here in GTA? I heard some ppl had to get an affidavit done from a lawyer here in Canada. Please can someone share their experience in Brampton office?
Hey guys.
Has anyone here applied for OCI for a foreign spouse?
My spouse is a US citizen. Does her birth certificate need to be notarised by the US embassy?
I have submitted OCI application to BLS on 2nd Oct by post but I got date of ack as 22nd Oct. And today I saw that it has been processed and received at toronto as well.
Date Of Acknowledgment 22-OCT-2018
Registration Status at Mission TORONTO
Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On 15-NOV-2018
Dispatched From MEA (OCI ) NEW DELHI On 15-NOV-2018
Document received At TORONTO On 15-NOV-2018
I think it will take another week to get it in hand. just posting the timeline to help others to estimate their processing time.
Hello - When did you finally get in hand? My updates shows all dates as 17th December. I was wondering if there is anything wrong - How can all dates be same?
My status shows:
Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On18-DEC-2018
Dispatched From MEA (OCI )NEW DELHI On18-DEC-2018
Document received At TORONTO On18-DEC-2018
It also provides OCI Number. It means, my OCI is approved.
Hopefully, I will get it in a week.
Does anybody have any experience of applying OCI while in India?
I'm asking because I am thinking that after getting Canadian passport:
1. Travel to India on Indian passport within 3 months of getting citizenship
2. Surrender Indian Passport in India
3. Apply for OCI in India
4. Fly back to Canada on Canadian Passport and Surrender certificate + old Cancelled Indian passport with Entry stamp (within or after 3 months)
"Even after acquiring the Canadian citizenship, the Indian passport can be used to travel for 3 months from the day of getting the Canadian citizenship. However, penalty will be charged if the passport is used after 3 months." (from http://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/eoi.php?id=surrender_certificate)
"2. Penalty for travelling on Indian Passport after acquiring Canadian citizenship is C$ 343 for each time, subject to a maximum of C$ 1711" "CLARIFICATIONS 4. There is a grace period of three months after acquisition of foreign nationality (to be counted from the date of registration / Naturalisation Certificate and not from the date of foreign passport) for using Indian passport for travel."
