on e-Visa you cannot apply for Surrender certificate in India.

Thanks for this, is this rule written on some website?

The surrender certificate process in India seems much simpler:
https://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/faqSurrender

To be clear, travel back to India on the Canadian Passport on e-Visa, get the surrender certificate while in India, and then get the OCI done while back in Canada? Is this alright?

Will OCI services also be affected as a result of the suspension of visa services?

I'm worried as I have a travel plan in late December, and my OCI application status shows it was received at BLS on 19 Sept.

Not sure if this applies to Indian Passport renewals and OCI. Visa services would entail business, tourist, employment, medical and student visas. Will have to wait and see implications of this move for OCI applicants.

The Indian government has also suspended issue of electronic visas, Mr Bagchi added, stressing that the issue is about "discrimination in how visas are granted by the Canadian side".

I applied on 11 Sep, walkin Toronto location. OCI website still says no records found.

To be honest, now I am concerned after the recent clashes between the Indian and Canadian government. Mr. Turdo and Mr. Hag-meet has messed up big time

Yeah these folks f'ed up big time. So all "in-process" stuff will also be held. I don't understand how they didn't consider Canadian-Indians in this mix.
