Please help me out here; I am freaking out right now:
I submitted my wife's, who is Permanent Resident and living in the US, application in November. I just received a email saying that I qualify as a sponsor but that the application has been sent to Dakar in West Africa (she has citizenship of a country close by).
I thought that her visa office will be in New York where she resides with my son? Why Dakar? I don't even know how long it will take or if she has to go there for some interview. Please enlighten me

For starters most American applicants have their applications to Ottawa, NY office doesn't take applications anymore and its my understanding that only applications with red flags are sent to the LA office.
Secondly it should not be a surprise that the application was sent to the applicants VO of citizenship, this is quite usual. The VO can be either by citizenship or residency.

Most of the time it is send to the VO applicant is born. Unfortunately, I don't think you can do much about it. You can try to call them, but they did everything right, so I don't think they will transfer file back. And yes, if she is invited to interview, she must attend in Dakar.
Guys i have a question .. I know with the new process they are askig for passport upfront before they make dm so that can mean the passport will be with them for a while... If i need to leave the country i might have to leave country for my phd and i will need my passport what should i do ?
