I did. Date is need only for Urgent passport service (and may be for Express service). I was provided Express service and they never asked to see my ticket / travel proof.
Yeah, I mean it makes sense in a way. Its a small price increase, so everyone would do urgent and true urgent cases would not get prioritized if a higher cost was all that was needed to get it fast. I think they just want to ensure they give passports very fast for people who actually need it/plan to travel

Did you need to explain why you requested the express service? I applied for urgent processing for my PR card last year, and I needed to attach some doctor's letter about my family member's health issues, and the "cover letter" explaining more in-depth, and why I specifically need to be in my home country. Is it similar with the express processing for a passport, or does it not require such detailed explanations?

You don't need any letters in most cases. If you are simply traveling and you need a passport for that, you only need to submit proof of travel. I did have a reason, a trip to the US but they did NOT ask for the proof.
Hi, Do you need to book an appointment for the service? If so, did you call them or fill out the form and they called you back? Do you need to show proof? I am in London too.

Yes you will need to submit the webform and wait for a call back. Very few are accepting walkins and that's iffy too as there maybe a ton of waiting. Best to get a confirmed appointment and avoid the wait
Hi all - monitored this in the background. Seems there is a massive backlog currently.
I mailed in my application on 22-Jul-21, passport program received on 23-Jul-21.
Passport was issued with a date of 10-Sep-21, mailed on 13-Sep-21 and received on 14-Sep-21.
I didn't specify any travel dates on my application, nor did I chase them prior to issue.
Good luck to everyone else, it's been a long old journey to get here.
