Yes. One is looking for Criminality (theft, murder, etc). The other is looking for Security (subversion of governments, terrorism, crimes against humanity, etc).
Thanks! I called CIC and they said the background check is completed but eligibility check is pending.
we are Feb 2017 applicants but I was curious to know if security check is different than background check. they are probably waiting on the security check, hence the delay.

really?.. So does it mean 3-6 months more...
I have also reached out to my MP as well to see what the hold up is. not too many updates from them so far.

I got a feeling it may come up very soon. I sponsor my wife inland and applied in Sept 2016 and we got the approval and PR on Feb 13, 2018. So I think you may receive the letter probably early 2019.
Don't worry. As long as they don't return your application or require an extra interview you are on the right path..
It is also interesting that I look at this forum some of the applicant applied like 2015 or so but did not receive any feedback. I am wonder if CIC do review each case before pick it up and process it.
Hi, cic received my application last nov.28,2016. Im inland applicant. After my medical last oct.4,2017 no update yet.when i called cic the operator said they're proccessing my background check. It's been 15months already. But luckily they issued me 2yrs open work permit which expires on march 2019.
Hope we could receive positive updates soon.
I agree and I hope they review our application soon. It has become so stressful as the days pass without any updates. I know it could be nothing but this uncertainty is a real pain in the neck!
Hi there. I had a request to submit fingerprints to RCMP. This request came on January 30 and I submitted the fingerprints on February 2nd directly to RCMP. I haven't heard anything back as yet. I'm yet to see an update on my profile and I was told it should only take 3 working days. Should I be concerned?
