My timeline is very similar to yours. I sponsored my wife.
Application Submitted - Dec 1, 2016
AOR Received - Dec 19, 2016
Asked to submit Medicals in mid November
And no update since then. My wife's work permit expires in June, 2018. I hope they finalize something before that else I have to file for an extension.
Hi, cic received my application last nov.28,2016. Im inland applicant. After my medical last oct.4,2017 no update yet.when i called cic the operator said they're proccessing my background check. It's been 15months already. But luckily they issued me 2yrs open work permit which expires on march 2019.

I called on my PR application today. They said background check was passed. Just waiting on medical and cohabitation to be completed.
I didnt even know background check was passed until today. Im guessing this is a good thing to be done. As far as the rest, no idea how long it will be take me to get a decision made.
Does anyone know if i might have to re do my medical since i completed them that in August 2016?
Im a November 2016 inland applicant.
Thanks everyone

I made a phone call to the call center and asked about my PR application. The officer told me mu back ground check was passed. I think this is a good sign.
But he said they have yet to review my medical exam and cohabitation documents.
I did my medical exam back in August 2016. Im just wondering since it has been over a year. Will inbe required to do another medical exam for my PR application.

Well, that's very confusing. You will need to be able to log into myCIC to retrieve the medical request. Cohabitation is assessed before the stage you are at ('Eligibility'). Since you have passed that stage (which is why your Sponsor's side shows DM, and your side shows 'In Process'), they've already assessed that.
At the stage you are in, they are assessing: Medical (which sounds like you may need to redo), Criminality (which they can do very quickly), and Security (usually this is the hold up in this stage). So it's hard to assess how long from here because you control the timing on the Medical, and they cannot control the processing time on the Security screening (conducted by CSIS on behalf of CBSA). 3-6 mos is common (but could be done quicker, depending on your past travel history).

Yes. One is looking for Criminality (theft, murder, etc). The other is looking for Security (subversion of governments, terrorism, crimes against humanity, etc).
