Can I do this?

EDIT: It is probably worth adding that I am here as a tourist from 12th Sept 13 to 01st Mar 14 (6 months) staying with my fiance.

We originally wanted to get married then apply for PR by being sponsored under family class (UK to Alberta), then apply for the working holiday as a means of earning while waiting for 10+ months for the PR to be processed.

It turns out the in-laws would prefer we lived together for more than 3 months before we get married and would be happy if we would wait a further 3 months.

This means I would need to do the applications the other way around - apply for working holiday for 2014, leave the country feb to start the working holiday, get married 2 months later, apply for family-sponsored PR via spouse route, and that will be that.

But I need to check that I can actually apply for family class sponsorship (spouse) while I am on a working holiday in Canada and if it wouldn't invalidate the working holiday open work visa (I think that's what it's called).

I cannot find anything on any FAQ and would appreciate any and all help.

Thank you.

You can apply for PR regardless of your status in Canada, and such an application will not invalidate any visa that you here in Canada for. Your important decision will be whether you will apply 'inland' or 'outland'. With an inland application you must stay in Canada for the duration or your PR application.

if you're from the UK, it's best to apply outland even if you're in Canada. Get the IEC/Work holiday visa, get married, and as soon as you are married, file for outland sponsorship. If it goes fast enough, you will hopefully get the answer for the spousal sponsorship before the IEC visa expires... otherwise you can stay in Canada with a tourist status until the PR comes. you would have to stop working, but hopefully not for too long.
Good luck!
