Hi All,

I have applied for work permit extension this April, but no reply. I need to go back to my country for a while. However I hear that we can't go to foreign countries if we still don't get final decision. Do you know what will happen if I go back to my country? The application will be withdrawn by IRCC? Or the application is still active even if I go back to my country. I am now working at the Canadian company.

you have the same case as of mine, I am planning to go to my home country and working in a Canadian company. You can’t leave Canada untill unless you have decision on your application. As you have not any updated stamp/counter foil on passport, so you can’t come back to Canada and you application will be withdrawn by IRCC. So avoid this until you receive latest work permit copy and later you applied for trv and have counter foil stamped and you can travel on your passport and return back to canada.

Can't I just go back to my country first and ask my friend to send me a work permit?

You need stamping on your passport with new work permit validity which is only possible once you receive the work permit document at ur mail box. Once you received that than only you can apply for TRV which means stamping on you passport.

I didn't know this.... But this work permit extension is a 2nd time for me. When I did flag poling two years ago (ie, I went to US), I didn't get any stamp, but I was able to renew the work permit. What is the difference? Is TRV necessary. If only work permit approval document is necessary, I will get it in two months and this will be the period when I go back to my country.

Hello.
Don't travel because you will loose your implied status. If your previous visa has expired, and you stay in Canada, you have implied status as worker (you can keep working legally); however, if you leave the country, you loose your status and cant come back as a worker, only visitor until your new visa is approved.
Besides, you might need a temporary resident visa if your ETA was cancelled in order to come back and enter the country.

OK. So you mean IRCC maintains entry and exit records. I don't know what is the benefit of this stupid rule. IRCC should work ASAP. Many people have hard time.

Hello,

You may leave the country but you will loose your maintained status. You have to travel on your TRV (if it is valid) but you can't work here until you get the decision on your application. While entering office may ask that do you have enough funds to stay until your application is processed. I already traveled US on maintained status and came back in Canada too. I am not working anymore and waiting for my High Wage LMIA to get processed.
