My partner and I are waiting for our Outland PRV application to be approved while he waits here in Canada with me on a Visitors visa. Our application has been sent to the London office and by the looks of everyone else in our situation, it wont take more then a few months more. However, we want him to stay in canada in the meantime. Anyone have any luck applying for a Visitors Visa Extention and being approved?...did you send letters from CIC regarding the approval of sponsorship and such? Just wondering...sounds like it takes a couple months for them to reply anyways, so it may just buy us some time even if it is declined. What do you think?
If you apply for an extension you will be on implied status between the expiry of your initial visa and the approval or denial of your extension application (keep copies of your application fee payment with your travel document). Since it takes about four months to process a visiting visa extension you will most likely be a resident before you will hear anything about the extension, so if you're denied or approved shouldn't matter that much.
Make sure the extension application reaches CIC before his current status expires. After that, as Swede said, you have implied status - until a decision is made on the extension, you can stay in Canada legally.
Such extensions are usually approved.
