I got an admit for Winter 2014 in the Faculty of Medicine, Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am gonna apply for visa next week. I wanted to inquire if anyone has joined or is planning to join the same dept.
Does anyone have any idea about how long it might take for the visa to arrive if I apply in AUGUST 1st week from Delhi, considering the entire strike scenario.
Also, I have received confirmed funding worth $29k for the first year (tuition fee - $12.5k) and $20k going forward. Do i need to show proofs for any additional funds as the CIC website mentions $10k+tuition fee only.

Vipul do not worry about the strike. Visa processing in India is lightning fast, right Divyazabi? Are you a physician? I'm a veterinarian but by research will be under a team of physicians and veterinarians under the Faculty of Medicine. You've got a big funding. Hope you wouldn't mind me asking what's your scholarship? Regarding funding, I think it will be better for you to include some proof of liquid cash, at least 12,000CAD aside from your scholarship.
@Divyazabi I know! LOL. Mabe CIC should see that Manila Visa Office manages applications from the Philippines, Korea, Japan and some Pacific Island nations and that they should add more personnel...
@Divyazabi: It's Masters
@DocRZ: Thanks for the advice. I am actually not from a medical background. I finished my Btech in Biotechnology from IIT Madras. I'll be pursuing Diabetes research in the university. I am funded by the Canadian Diabetes Society and partially by the department. You mentioned about liquid funds. I have a bank FD for $10k and asset proof. But is it absolutely necessary to show liquid funds apart from the proposed funding from the university. I know they might look for liquid funds for air tickets etc..
Cool. Our research can be used for the management of diabetes. It's focused on gut hormones and peptides that controls appetite.
It won't hurt if you show them some money in the bank and some properties. This can show country ties too. I have a 20k/year funding but I still included bank statements to show that I can live comfortably in Canada.
Good to hear about your research. So when are you joining the university? Did you receive your visa already?
Any special point that one needs to take care of before applying for the visa. I'll include the bank FD proof and my account statement. I think that should be enough right?
I'll be joining this fall though I have not received my visa yet. Canadian Embassy here in Manila is taking forever. Applied last April and until now I have not received any correspondence from the embassy. Hopefully I'll be able to finish everything about the visa application in-time or else...
The checklist is very important. Make sure you don't miss out a single detail.
