I'm sponsoring my American husband and I just received my stage one approval letter. What confuses me is that the letter also states "A refund in the amount of $340.00 has been initiated on your behalf and will be mailed to you in approximately six to eight weeks." Huh? Should I be getting a refund when my sponsorship is approved and our file is being transferred to Ottawa? These are the fees that I paid: Sponsorship Application $75, Principal Applicant $475 and Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490. I haven't found anything online indicating a reduction in the fees, so I'm very confused. Has anyone else had this happen?

I hope this doesn't mean that we are getting rejected before the file is even sent to CPP-O.

That's pretty weird.

Maybe they accidentally charged your card with something more? And they're giving back the overcharge? Did you check your credit balance if they got the right amount?

It might be worth firing off a email to inquire what the refund is for, especially if your personal records don't reach back far enough to check for your self. That is an odd amount based on the fees you paid.
