Thank you chimetex2002.
Personal information is usually requested under the Privacy Act.
There are no fees charged for requests made under the Privacy Act.
The purpose of the Privacy Act is to protect the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information about themselves where it is held by a government institution and to provide individuals with the right to access such information.
Note: Personal information which belongs to an individual who is not a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or currently living in Canada must be requested under the Access to Information Act.
All government records (which include corporate documents and personal information) may be requested under the Access to Information Act.
The application fee for request made under that Access to Information Act is $5.00 and processing fees may also be charged under some circumstances.
The purpose of the Access to Information Act is to provide a right of access to records under the control of a government institution to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or any individual or corporation present in Canada.

There is no charge if you are inland and applying for yourself.
So, privacy act is right.
Will the information provided through privacy act have all that we need to know regarding our file? The dates and all that stuff or is it less detailed than those ordered through third party services?

Yes it's the same thing.
The free one is if you are in Canada and requesting your own notes.
While the $5 one is for those in Canada but requesting on the behalf of someone else.
Same notes under different acts.

i've just received mine, ordered them a couple of weeks ago when i didn't have any updates at all on my application. funny thing, since i applied i got medicals passed, requested documents and background checks changed also a couple of times..
but seeing your status you indeed might get your pr before getting the notes, but wouldn't be that bad would it be ?

Dear all
I have a very similar situation to
melbourne in that I provided a letter of explanation explaining that I cannot provide a police certificate from my home country due to the current ongoing unrest. They acknowledged that they received it in my GCMS notes (see image below) but it says that decision is pending till they receive this letter.
I'll try contact my visa office but if they don't answer how can I explain that I can't provide the police certificate?
Guys: what is usually a deadline to provide the police certificate considering that I
didn't receive any correspondence asking to provide my second police certificate despite my LoE?
melbourne : did you have to provide a police certificate? What did you have in your LoE?
trying to go through all the pages in the thread to find my answer but it's taking too long.. sorry if it's been answered before but any idea what's "s.19(1)" in the right top corner is ?
thanks for your help

The presence of this section means the personal information of a dependent (partner etc) is not disclosed because of the privacy laws (a consent from that person was not included in the ATIP request, hence his/her personal information is redacted).

What does the presence of s.16(1)(c) mean? I know all the law enforcement blah blah.
But, what does it really really mean? What are they investigating?
I noticed applicants with s.16(1)(c) usually have long processing delays!
Mine is written on the page of organizations & entities.

Not necessarily.
If you have it in the Association section, then they are using 3rd parties to check your work experience or if you belong to any groups (political or such)
That is kind of standard to do these checks (actually it is partly for A11.2checks and partly for security).
Nothing to worry about, they just do not want to disclose those 3rd parties
if however it is in some other sections (like analyst comments on last pages), it might be that there are currently some doubts there.

Phew!!
It's on associations, organizations etc page.
I can wait with less worry now!
how is it part of A11.2 checks? Since A11.2 is already done by case analyst.
Thank you.
