Hi Friends,
I have completed my landing and I came back to my country.I have 4 weeks of time and then I will be going back to Canada.I cannot get travel document as it is going to take more than 4 weeks to get it.
Can I apply for tourist visa and then reenter Canada.I am thinking of tourist visa as it will take less time to get it.Has anyone done that ?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Nitin Sharma
As a landed immigrant you cant get tourist/visit visa. You need to have your PR cards or Travel Doc from the respective Embassy to go back to Canada via commercial carrier.

Agreed. TD is your only option. If you appl for a visitor / tourist visa, your application will be refused because you're a PR and don't qualify to apply for one.
Thanks for your reply,
However,I have read in the same forum that somebody was asked by the Canadian High Commission to apply for tourist visa to reenter in Canada.
With all regards to everyone, what scylla has mentioned is 100% correct, rest all opinions are wrong and waste of time.

Can a travel doc be applied at a time when your PR is already under process, I don't think so ! And from this another question arises, which is the legal way one can re enter canada when facing a situation like Trick's !! I am talking of entry during the period when PR cards are under process. Experts please share

Once you have landed and become a PR of Canada, you must apply for a travel document to re-enter Canada. Whether you have been issued a PR card yet or not doesn't matter. Once you have landed - you are a PR and no longer qualify to apply for a visit visa.

my question is .....I enter canada as new immigrant on a short landing, and leave canada after one week without getting my PR cards (cuz PR cards take six to eight weeks to be delivered at the given postal address), NOW if I want to re enter canada while my PR cards are still under process, OR just consider that PR cards have been delivered to the given address in Canada but are not in my hand, what is the way for a legal entry in canada ! Thanks

This question has already been answered. This is what Trick originally asked.
If you have a non-visa exempt passport and you don't have your PR card with you, then you need a travel document to re-enter Canada.

just see the link below that tells when one should go for a TD, my query refers to a scenario where PR cards are either under process or lying at the given address, and you want to enter canada, ie they are neither lost nor destroyed !

I've already answered your question. You need to apply for a travel document in the scenario you have described. There is no further information I can provide.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp is the link you need. It really can't be any more clearly stated.

ok let me put it this way, ..in the scenario I have explained earlier, which option out of the following two is legal !
1. one can get his PR card through courier and re enter canada on that card,
2. even though his card is ready lying at the given address in Canada, he should enter only through TD and then collect from there.
Thanks

1. Both. It is not illegal to mail/courier PR cards out of Canada.

wonderful, coming to TD option in my scenario, if i apply for TD, ... can't canadian embassy hold the processing of my PR cards, or may cancel them either while issuing a TD !
Anybody who has encountered such a situation, please share !
