Tourist visa extension question

I applied to be a sponsor for my wife and we are going threw the "Outland" process.
My wife, our son and I are living in Montreal at this moment.
My wife is on a 6 month tourist visa which will expire in October.
My question: Should I apply for a 6 month extension or one year?
I need to know if I apply for a 6 month extension that my wife will have more of a chance to being granted the 6 month extension?

IMO requesting 6 or 12 months makes no difference to the chances of getting an extension, what matters are your reasons for extending the stay and meeting all the requirements.

Very true. The first extension we asked for we got the six months we requested. Then when that was about to expire we sent another asking for another six months, but sent along proof of us applying for his PR, and they gave us over a year, instead of the six months we asked for

We would love to thank you for your wonderful answer. I would like to know what things did you send to have your visitor visa extension approved. I know it is good to send the residency fees paid receipt but I am wondering if you can list other things which will be needed to send a solid Visitor Tourist Visa extension application package?
