If my background check says "We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information" does this mean they have started it? or is it the same with "Your application is in progress"?

I think that background check status says this right after you made an application by default.

What I meant is, is there any difference? because based on my observation, most people have "Your application is in progress". What if in the background check it says "We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information"? what is the difference between the two?

2nd one indicates that file is progressing.

As for me, my status in background check is " We are processing...." and my application says "In progress".. No update till date.. Already received BVL on 20/10/2020 but DLI not in the list yet though there were a lot of approvals last Friday for some schools not in DLI yet in PH..

It said "We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information" right after I made the application. So I think it's a default thing. Are you seeing someting else in yours? If yes, what it is, when did you apply and from which country?

I think a good sign would be when they start reviewing your eligibility or there is medical update (if you gave upfront medical) or if they ask you for additional info, which also mean that they're working on your application.

In my case, it's not changed back to "your action is required" since past two days. Is that a bad sign?

Your application is progressing pretty good I guess. In India, we don't even have those medical requests for those who applied without medical. Good luck.

Status changed from 'your action required' to 'submitted' 3 days ago

In my and for a lot of users on this forum, their status changed from "you action required' to 'submitted exactly after one month of their date of application which made it look like an automated thing. But looking at your case (change in status after random number of days and not exactly a month) makes me wonder whether that status change is an automated thing or a ghost update.

Ghost updates are good indications I guess as they explain that they're working on your application.
