I have a dilemma: I am married and want to apply under express entry but am not sure whether I should show my spouse as dependent or not. My spouse is not a post graduate and would have to take IELTS; however, I am not getting any significant addition to my score. Is it okay to not show him as a dependent as he is also planning to go to Canada for further studies and can join me later?
It's mandatory that you show your spouse as a dependent. If you fail to do this, then you'll be committing misrepresentation and will never be able to sponsor your spouse later. The choice you have is whether to flag your spouse as accompanying or non-accompanying.

It's not mandatory that he take the IELTS regardless of wether he's accompanying or non-accompanying. (But there is some variation in your CRS if you choose accompanying).
If he wants to study in Canada why not put him as accompanying? He'll pay less tuition as PR vs with a study permit. Also Sponsoring him later is a lengthy process.
