Hi, my partner currently gets Canadian financial assistance. Her University tuition paid for/sponsored along with her, Room & Board ( Called Monthly Student Allowance ) as she is First Nations. She gets about 700ish$ for that.I am curious, does this count as Social Assistance? I don't believe it is a type of welfare, as she only gets this as she is going to school. She also receives extra cheap health care as she is First Nations. I believe she is sponsored by the Canupawapka First Nations which I think is a Govt organization. This seems like a proper explanation of what she gets https://www.aadnc-aandc.gc.ca/eng/1100100033688/1100100033689 is this ok? At the moment she also holds a part time job while she is at school. The program is called UCEPP
Ok thanks, I just was looking through and found some information actually if it provides useful to anyone. "Students receiving funding from the PSSSP or UCEPP must declare support received from this program as a source of income if applying for social assistance." showing they are clearly two entities
I would mention in an explanation letter but the first nation's governance and support system is different than the rest of Canada. It will likely show up when showing how she supports herself. Since the sponsorship documents weren't created for the sunset of Canadian that First Nation's and that live on a reserves you may have to add some explanations.

Did she live on the reserve before going to school? I thought the extra financial assistance was associated with living on the reserve and also depended on your particular band council. Others may not receive any support while at school.
Would imagine you may have to explain her source of income because it will appear that she doesn't have a source of income to support either of you if she is going to school.

It applies to anyone who can prove that they are from that native band. They do have to attend school full time to recieve this, though. I have explained this in my visa extensions and showed that she gets money for housing, while working a part time job. My main question being if it was Social Assistance, and just to reconfirm, it is not, correct?
