Are you sure you linked up or just were able to see the application status of sponsor and PA application as under review ? I received AOR but can’t really link up. After I read the information it seems I can link up after sponsor application is approved and they start to process PA’s application. I used Gckey to open an account to view only. I suppose this is not linked up. Please correct me if I have misunderstood.

Definitely i was able to link the application!!
I applied my permanent residence by myself as well in 2017 (by the way I am a sponsor)
It's kind of the same process!!
I have seen people can't link their applications because of the some information entered wrong by CIC in their system!! Same situation happened with my cousin and she called CIC and they fixed it!
I would recommend to call cic and also try other combinations of things to link your application!!

If you actually found your application in GC key then that means you are fine!!
But if it says "no application found" even after AOR then i would recommend to call cic

Again i am not expert but as per my experience i can provide you this much information

Didn’t receive AOR Yet but i was able to see my application today on Ecas.

Did you try to search for your application on ecas ?
I didn’t receive an AOR but i was able to find my application on ecas this morning and
