WHY SOME GOT INPROCESS WHICH RECEIVED AOR MUCH LATER THAN THOSE HAVE NOT GOT IN PROCESS BUT AOR MUCH EARLIER? DID THEY DO FIRST COME FIRST SERVED, OR LET SOMEBODY CUT IN LINE? FAIR?

Right. Could be they are buffering up enough applications for each processing center and will flush it out in one go.

I sent my application on September 13,2017. Got an email of Application Received on October 18. But still the status hasn't changed to "Application in process". Does anyone knows, generally how many days it takes to change the status from AOR to Application in process?

It all depends on visa office and officer but avg is between 15 to 30 days

Just trying to make out delaying factors contributing to change in status from AOR to "IN PROCESS", could you please like to share below items;
1. do you have absence during eligibility period and how many?
2. your country of passport?

In my opinion the delaying factor is office which in my case is Mississauga.

Mine is "In Process" on November 1!

1. We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on September 14, 2017.
2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on October 10, 2017.
3. We started processing your application on November 1, 2017.
