doing a soft landing end of Feb. My problem is, i wont have a PR card obviously and after returning i may need to go back out there in a number of weeks/month.
I assume my options are:
- Fly to America and Drive across the boarder (as i cant use commercial transport)?
- Get a travel document from my local visa office? anyone got experience with this?
- Any other ideas?
Your best bet is conducting a land crossing the border in a private vehicle (from the US). You will need to show your COPR and Passport. Given the time constraints, it will be more expensive in terms of flying (to US) but oh well.

You are left with one option, drive across the border.
I had applied for PRTD and it took 14 days, my case. The time for PRTD varies from country to country and within country too, depending upon when you are applying.( I have seen folks getting it in 7 days and others waiting for more than a month in India)
Also, when you apply for PRTD you have to submit your passport and this can be risky, your case.

You should be able to travel across the land border with just your passport and COPR. COPR is just to help. Hire a cab or rent a car to travel across from US. You should be ok.
