Re-enter Canada using your COPR?

HI, Thanks for all the info! Has anyone done this recently? I plan to land in Toronto in December (CoPR expires 20 Dec), and then leave for New York on 25 Dec before receiving my PR card. Will I be able to re-enter Canada on land with my CoPR and passport?

People do this all of the time. It's perfectly fine and accepted.

To confirm - is this on CoPR imm5688 or Imm 5292? Because I have the imm5688 which says "not valid for travel"

They all say that. It means that it can't be used in place of an actual travel document, i.e. a passport.

I also had the same question last year before moving to Canada. I called the CBSA help line and they confirmed that CoPR and passport is sufficient. They are helpful and friendly. If you are like me and want 100% peace of mind, I suggest you also call them up and get the first hand information directly from source:

Tell your friend to actually do some research instead of just believing what random people tell him. There is no law against mailing a PR card.

You don't even need your COPR. CBSA will swipe your passport and see your PR status in the system.

Is there supposed to be a stamp in the passport or something of the sort that they use or can they just look up with the passport that I have completed my landing?

As background current PR card wait times are ~140 days and I planned to return to the US to wrap things up much sooner than that. Wondering if I will be able to drive back to Canada with Passport and COPR.

I do that everyday. I got my COPR in 2016. However, I did not move until July last week. Technically, I am not supposed to travel on COPR. However, I am traveling by my car everyday, so no issues on that.

Most of the times, officers do not even ask for COPR, as they see that I have PR stamped on my passport.

Can I ak what is PR stamped on passport? I had my COPR stamped while landing and had my PR visa crossed out, was there supposed to be something in addition to that?

Hopefully the PR card arrives before my plans of moving, if not I will have to use the COPR + land border route.

One more question, is rental car ok as a "private vehicle" or does it have to be owned by me..I'm guessing its fine right?
