Protected Person PR Process Time

Hi ,
I applied for PR under protected person on April 2018. As of November 2019. I have not received any correspondence or email. I made numerous phone calls and send multiple webforms. I contacted MP and all I am being told is that because of covid my file is stuck in background check. I hired a lawyer who just took my money and never did anything. Everyone is telling me that nothing can be done. I just have to wait. I applied for travel last year in October. I put urgent request. I have received Nothing to date. Any suggestions on what can be done. Thank you all
