Yet another question with MSP coverage on pregnancy. Currently, wife and I are in Taiwan due to a job transfer last October. She is now 23 weeks pregnant and we plan to deliver the baby in Canada. She lived in BC for more than six month in 2014. So this means that she is still enrolled under BC health insurance and will be covered with the delivery cost, right?
However, I read somewhere that you will have to stay in BC at least for 3 month before giving birth in order to get coverage on delivery cost. Is this true?
I would contact them to confirm. There are residency requirements for keeping coverage. Given how long your wife has been outside of Canada (or when she plans to return), she may no longer be covered and may have to wait three months from the time she returns to Canada before she will have coverage.
Information about the residency requirement is here:
Thanks for the reply Scylla.
She did spent six month in BC last year after recieiving her health card so she is covered.
We plan to fly back around the end of April so let's hope BC medical does not play hard ball on having baby outside of the country..
