my sister has alberta health card and she is 25 week pregnant. she wants to move to ONTARIO in august and she will be due in October... In Ontario one has to wait 3 months for ontario health coverage.
My question is if she is pregnant even though she has to wait 3 months?
then how can she give birth in Ontario?
If ontario will not cover her health then will alberta will cover her heath coverage until she gets ontario health coverage?
There is a system in place so as long as you are moving within Canada (province to province), you will always have health coverage.
There is an agreement that whatever province you are moving from (Alberta) will continue to provide coverage during the 3-months waiting period in Ontario. So she will be covered.
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/ohip_waiting_pd.aspx b) If you move to Ontario from another province or territory where you had provincial/territorial health insurance coverage:
If you move to Ontario directly from another province and apply for coverage, your OHIP coverage will begin on the first day of the third month after establishing residence in Ontario, provided you were insured in your previous province or territory.
Your valid health card from your former province will continue to provide you with health insurance coverage in accordance with that province/territory's plan during the waiting period.
