No emails will be sent. You need to check your CIC account or call the hotline to know when the application has been approved. When they print your visa and send to the facility to return your passport, they update the status of your application to "Approved". If you don't have access to GCkey, then call them directly around 2/3 weeks after the passport has been delivered.
My application was approved yesterday, but I did get an email today saying my application was updated. Interestingly, they added dates to my background check completion and eligibility completion. However, the dates they put for both of those were Nov 16, 2018, which is not possible because I had three ADRs after that. Next to the approval date, it also says "check your messages for details", but there is no new message.
All of this leads me to believe they are just having issues with the new format of the online accounts, since it was changed fairly recently. They will probably sort it out over the next few weeks.

However, my husbands passport is not valid for atleast 12 months as required so he will be sending for passport renewal and we shall submit our passports or passport copies whichever applicable.
My question should i also attach the his prev passport or copies of the prev passport while sending?

It is not necessary to add the old passport's photocopies according to my representative as I had an old passport as well but I only sent my valid one.

They say it takes 2 weeks after passports received to process the letters/visas and send them back to you.
Based on your timeline, I'd expect something for the week July 29 to August 02
