I just got my acceptance letter from Concordia. I am an Indian citizen in US and I am going to apply for study permit in New York.
Has anybody applied for study permit in NY? I wanted to find out if the police clearance and FBI clearance certificates are absolutely necessary?? I got TRV in November last year and for that application I didn't have to submit any police/FBI clearance. If you have any experience applying for study permit in NY, please share. Thank you in advance.
Just answering my own question, in case someone else is looking for this information:
I submitted my study permit application in NY without the FBI or police clearance certificate and got the visa. They didn't ask for those certificates...I just submitted the documents listed on their checklist and nothing more.

it depends on the country as well...as i have studied in uk and now wana apply for Canadian study permit and they lot said u defiantly need police clearance certificate from uk police....
Thanks for sharing your experience. You are right it could depend on the background. I have studied in US for 4 years and worked for 3 years. And I have gotten Canadian visitor visa twice already, so maybe that's why they didn't ask me.
By the way, how did they ask you for police certificate? did you submit your application and they contacted you later to provide additional documents?

nah nah i rang em asking do i need or not & they lot said yes thts compulsory.....dsnt mke sense though cz as far as i knw we only need tht if we r applying for residency.....
Which embassy did you call? New York? They usually don't discuss anything over the phone. And if something is not part of their checklist, then it shouldn't be mandatory. Anyways, I hope you can get those certificates quickly. Good luck!
No i dont think so.Its optional. If you can get them at the rightime and apply then fine but if you cant dont bother. The main one is from your native country when you are applying for the first time.

I don't agree that the main police certificate is from your native country. They say you have to get police clearance certificates from all the countries you have lived in for more than 6 consecutive months, after you turn 18 . My native country is India but after turning 18 I never lived in India for 6 months or longer. So if they had asked for a police clearance certificate, I wouldn't have needed one from India.
