Do I need to worry now that I still didn't receive any email from the CIO? I'm an inland applicant, sent application to CIO May12 they received it May14. Anyone from this thread has the same situation as mine?
In all seriousness, that's a very good shout as to why things seem to have slowed down - there are probably quite a few people away.
Not that it could get much slower and still be considered moving anyway...
I just came back from a trip to Turtle Mountain. While there, I visited the Peace Garden on the border with the US. Going to the garden means you have to 're-enter' Canada, even though we never technically left. The border guard at Boissevain said, looking at the October expiry on my IEC work permit, "So, what are the plans after October then?" "I'm in the process of applying for PR. I was nominated by Manitoba, and my application is at the processing centre in Nova Scotia", I replied. "Oh man" he said, "that's a massive 'hurry up and wait'. They have a HUGE backlog".

No U.S. visa required, as you don't technically enter the U.S. at any point. When you enter the garden you drive down a road that bypasses the customs points, and when you leave, you have to go back through Canada customs and present your passport.
He just checked my work permit was valid, and that was it.

I'm not fully convinced on that "summer vacation" is the reason for this delay. As far I know summer vacation is for kids and it's not applicable in administration....even if some elder kids cry for summer vacation than other cover them doing overtime or so on. Don't know actually what's going on... :-\
