Hi,

So when I first applied for my CEC visa (Jan 2013), my passport had more than two years validity left on it (expiring April 2015).

Now, after a very long and confusing journey, I have finally received landing papers but my passport now only has about 9 months validity left.

I am expecting to make my initial landing to establish claims of residency in September (6 and a held months validity left) before coming back to Australia and making the permanent move in March (1 month left).

Should I apply for a new passport now, between making my initial landing and my final landing, or after my final landing?

As an Australian citizen, I don't need a visa to visit Canada, so won't be getting a stamp/counterfoil in the passport itself.

Cheers,
Reth

Probably best to apply after your landing in September, after you arrive back in Australia.

I wouldn't apply now as your COPR has you passport number & expiry, and it won't match up and it's kind of a hassle to apply for a passport our of your own country (well it was for me to apply for a UK passport overseas, it was more expensive and takes a longer time).

Thanks! It looks like I have to move my travel plans forward a week just so I don't get in trouble coming back via the US (cheapest way to get to Australia is usually via the US) but otherwise this does sound like the best way.
