My current passport is getting expired in Feb 2011; currently I am in USA and can't renew it before one year in advance.
So (Feb 2010) is the date when I’ll be eligible to renew my passport here in US.
I have submitted my initial application to CIO Sydney in Dec-09 and waiting for their further advice.
My question is when should I apply for my Passport renewal?
1. Get the renewal in Feb-2010 and submit final application to Buffalo with new passport information?
2. Submit final application to Buffalo with old passport info and then apply for the renewal of passport (to ease the process), and update the consulate later?
I have already got India PCC stamped on my old/current passport along with a certificate.
3. In any case I have to get my passport renewed before submitting for final visa stamping.
You will be getting responses from CIO by February and give 120days to submit full docs to CHC.
I will advise that you renewal your passport in Feb-2010 and submit final application to Buffalo.

Hi there,
some countries immigration says that you can keep your old passport with new one for 1 year, so in that case if you have visa on old passport you can still keep it and have new passport aswell. if that is the case no need to do anything, get immigration visa on current passport and renew it when expires and keep new one. i hope you understand what i am trying to say, seniors to comment plz
Thanks Romford, for sharing this useful info,
I am an India citizen and holding Indian passport, Indian government policy says one can have old passport (with valid visas) along with the new passport.
specially "13.15. Valid visas in expired passports" clears most of the doubts.
I'm most likely convinced with "Benny" suggestion and decided to get Passport renewed in Feb2010 and will submit updated full application to CHC Visa office at buffalo USA to avoid any future complications.
