it would be better if your parents can get "not found certificate" ..i dont know how affidavit worked for smom but i have seen 3 cases in which affidavit or educational certificate didnt worked..
Before sending the affidavit I called to cic. They told me we accept affidavits.

Its sad, I sent separate affidavits in leiu of marriage and birth certs. My parents sent them from back home as officially they r the one signing the forms.
I suggest you get the affidavits from back home, meaning as ur mom actually sending them. Ask them courier using bluedart/dhl, u would receive them in 4 business days. I think if u react fast u can definitely meet the timeline.
I agree with you.Me too get affidavits from back home through courier. It takes 4 business days only.

I get them from India, birth affidavits for both of them & one Marriage affidavit.Directly go to the lawyers office & ask affidavit it takes only one hour.

why courier.. just curios, why cant you ask them to scan the document and email it to you.. you dont need to send originals.. its just a copy that they need.. remember your documents will not be returned to you..
You have to send original affidavits.
CIC wants a copy of certificates. But if hou r priducing affidavits in lieu of certificates, they ask for original. They also ask u to explain why r u not able to produce copy of certicates in a paper and sign it.
If u r not able to submit copy of certs, submit a original affidavit.

Oh dear, I submitted scanned copies of the affidavit. Only one affidavit for both - birth and marriage. Bracing for a response from CIC.
@asidhu5: Feel sorry for you, but cheer up and get what is requested. If you are sending originals, make sure you make ample copies of it (if possible notarised), before you send it in.

Are you 100% sure about this? Did you call to ask them or did you read on CIC web site?
I think with my earlier posts, I created some panic around few of you. I wanted to explain it little further
In my case, I submitted a letter explaining why I am not providing copy of certificates. But to support their birth and marriage dates I submitted my dad's birth affidavit, my mom's birth affidavit, one marriage affidavit (all originals).
CIC didn't say anywhere this is how I should submit affidavits. I though this is the best I could do and did it.
In your case, no need to panic, it really depends on the officer who processes your file. It warries from person to person and case to case. Hope for the best.
What do you say in your affidavits? I mean what do your parents say?
My situation is as follows.
My mom was married in the 1970-s. That marriage dissolved. She has a divorce certificate. She lost marriage cert. According to Russian law, you cannot obtain a copy of a marriage certificate if the marriage ended with the divorce. However, the Vital Stats Bureau will give a an oficial extract of marriage records. This exctract will say that two people married, when it happened, how it ended and what last names they assumed after their marriage.
A year ago, I wrote to the Embassy in Moscow and asked them what to do if we can't obtain a copy of marriage cert. They said submit whatever document Vital Stats gives to you. So we did.
I hope it will suffice. But you never know.
When I immigrated, I was divorced and didn't have a copy of marriage cert as well. Moscow Embassy was happy with the Vital Stats document I was talking about earlier.
So i am keeping my fingers crossed but still want to know what is in Affidavit. Just in case.

as per my understanding marriage affidavit needs to be signed by both husband and wife.. so I am not sure how would that work in your case .. basically it reads original names .. date/place they got married and if your name changed after marriage.. but I will let someone more experienced shed more light here..

@sponsorparents: Nope, you did not create panic, just made us aware of things that could go wrong for us. Fore-warned is fore-armed' as they say. Just as a precaution, I have asked for my mom to send me the original affidavit. And liked you said "Hope for the best"

My 2 cents... An affidavit is an affirmation of a fact which cannot be proved otherwise. Hence if both spouse are not able to sign it, and there is a valid reason for that, then it should not matter if just one signs it.
I am NOT a lawyer, though.

Smom, seeing that u got an approval, i shud send 2 separate affidavits instead of a single affidavit for birth and marriage.
But i will call CIC on tuesday too.
Anyways forum members, my mom is in canada with me, so getting affidavits is not a concern.
I am sad because bcoz i might have my lost my position in the queue, otherwise its jus a little snag, nothing more

True, as my mom is a widow, so only she can sign a marriage affidavit.
