Hey guys! My boyfriend/common-law partner is currently 1 year into his 2 year work permit, so he is living in Canada. We want to apply for me to sponsor him as a PR - outland was recommended to us upon an initial consultation with an immigration consultant. Is it quite common to apply Outland while in Canada?? I realize that he won't be given an open work permit, but we are hoping it would be approved before his expires in August 2018.

We are outland Irish in Canada, I don't think it's the most common but it does happen - a lot of people think it means the applicant must be out of Canada
Ok, thanks..I guess what I'm wondering, is there any reason why we wouldn't want to do this over an inland? (other than not getting an open work permit, but not too concerned about that since we have a year left still)

It is a very common situation to apply outland while in Canada. There is no reason to do inland when he already has a work permit valid for another year.
