My boyfriend and I will be officially common law by tomorrow (1 year cohabitation). He is currently in Canada under a two year work permit through LMO, he has only started working about two months ago. His goal is to be able to go to college in Alberta as soon as possible.
My question is, if we were to apply for PR outland would he still be able to work in Canada with his current work permit? We have heard that the processing times for outland would be faster than inland. Or should we just apply for inland? I am not sure of what processing times are like at the moment but I imagine that it is over a year.
Outland PR application and LMO closed work permit, are 2 completely different things and do not interfere with each other. So no problem to apply outland while he's working.
In practically all cases it's better/quicker for visa-exempt applicants to do outland applications.
Thanks for the response! I think we will go with applying outland then.. If for whatever case, his work permit expires and he still has not obtained PR, can he still renew his work permit? I know you said it is two different things, but we read somewhere on cic website that you cannot get a work permit or study permit etc, if you are applying for PR outside of Canada? (does that mean outland?).
