I have a weird question.... so lets say you get the 2 year OWP and within 2 years they open your file for sponsorship and they decide not to go forward with the application, what happens then. Is your OWP still valid? Can you get another work permit? How does it work? I really need hubby to stay baby is due in March and of course baby needs daddy forever...!!!

If the application is denied, the OWP becomes null and void on that date. The applicant would not be eligible for another OWP becuase the Inland application failed.
Not necessarily. This is essentially the Family Class equivalent of the Bridging Open Work Permit. If a person has a BOWP but their CEC/FSW/PNP app is refused, their BOWP is still valid until the expiry date. It is probably the same for inland applicants.

So a person can get an OWP based on the Inland application (which is what makes them eligible to even have one), but then if their application is denied...they can continue to work?!

I have to agree with Ponga. I believe the OWP would be void the moment the PR application is deem cancelled or void. I say this because the OWP would not be issued any other way except through PR spousal application thus is strictly linked.
On the other hand, the OWP does not specifically say in the visa that it is linked to PR spousal application or does it?

I don't know for sure. I'm just saying that it is entirely possible, given that the BOWP remains valid.

Congrats on getting your owp. We applied in May and have yet to receive our owp. Can you tell me what did you send with your application? Did you call anyone at cic?? I'm so stressed out we really need this owp and it's just so frustrating not knowing the method they are applying to do this.
well hopefully either way the application is approved and we wont have to worry about OWP being null and void...
my hubby got an AOR today via email with a file number starting with XF... however it says further in the letter that we can use the UCI located at the top right hand of the letter to view the application online... the letter does not have a UCI number only the XF... which doesn't work... his UCI number which is on his work permit also doesnt work... maybe I should give it a few days... but how long before they issue him an OWP? He applied Nov 17.
