You have to apply for PCC online through passport seva kendra and pay Rs 500 for appointment. You have to carry your passport and other ID proofs (if applicable) to the PSK on the day of your appointment. The usual process in the counters A,B & C. Once this is done, a request will be sent to the police station.
Now, am not sure how it works in other places. Some mention that you will have to visit the police station with docs.
However, for me the police called up on the same day to ask for my availability. They visited my address after 7 days though. They verified my original IDs and asked for photo copies of Aadhar & 2 passport size photos. Enquired about my duration of stay, my employment and previous address history. I was asked to sign in the ledger.
Then after 8 days, I got my PCC hard copy via post.
I think it really depends on your city/state how the police handles passport matters. If you do not receive any calls from them for a week then you can go to the station with your documents and check the process with them I guess.
