Certain Database (Depending on Country) requires verification via Finger Prints as they may not have all digital records of entry/exit at port - When you get flagged at in airport for travel, they do a background check of the individual from all possible database - this is a very similar check, just that for IRCC takes a longer processing time.
Even though you are in Oct 2020 applicant - your processing time for BG completion is more or less the same as mine - Hoping the next few steps are quicker. I am really hoping that I do not have to give then another set of FP .. but quite sure they will ask for Passport Copies. I am thinking of just sending it to them via webform even before asking for it.
Completed my virtual Oath today. Took just over an hour. Easy and smooth process. Truly an emotional experience! Good luck to all! (Please feel free to update tracker)
I'm an oct 2020 applicant. Just on March 28th, 2022 my fingerprints were received and processed, so background verification is now showing complete. I wonder why some of us were left on the back burner. I've yet to have anything else completed.

On March 31, 2022, we updated the processing times tool to more accurately show how long it may take to process your application.
Before, it showed our service standards, which are our commitment to processing your application under normal circumstances. Service standards are not updated regularly.
Most permanent residence and citizenship services now show processing times that are updated every week, based on data from the previous 6 months.
These updates give you more realistic and up-to-date information that reflects
volumes of applications being processed and
any changes to our ability to process applications
It took about just over 3 weeks from the time the 3rd party took my fingerprints to IRCC receiving them. They requested it March 3rd, and the 5th I was already getting them done. IRCC received them on March 27th, and March 29th, 2022 it was showing as complete.
Yesterday I had my Oath taking Ceremony. It was a memorable day. Now I am waiting for the certificate. Good luck to everyone waiting for the next step.
I get it but this is so unpredictable, I am stuck at DM stage. My PR card will expire end of year, and this year is so full of travel. Longggg process ahead.

Yes they have the same answer to anyone who calls to inform the time frame is 27 months. I asked about the information on portal that says 3-4 months from date of test to get oath ceremony, they had no answer and kept repeating the new rule of 27 months.
