I received my Surrender Certificate today and am planning to submit the OCI application by post. I have the following questions, and any help would be appreciated:
Do we need to submit the Canadian passport along with the application form?(If needed, Do they keep the passport until OCI is delivered?)
Do we need to upload self-attested documents on the portal?
I have India travel planned for November 25. Would it be advisable to submit the application now or later?
- Dont submit any originals specially Canadian issued ones
- Self attested documents are not required to be uploaded on the OCI portal
- Later.. Toronto jurisdiction take 8 weeks of processing, Vancouver and Ottawa processing is much longer 12+ weeks, and since you are applying by post add 2 weeks on top of additional transit time
Can anyone help me with my request. My application status has changed to "Passport ready for collection" on the BLS site. However, I opted for the Purolator return service for the OCI and already paid for it to be delivered at home.
What are the next steps in the process. Do I still have to reach out to BLS? Thanks and appreciate your help.
**Update** Got the answer from the forum - Looks like BLS will update the status with Tracking# once they ship it.
On OCI website it is mentioned that it will be rejected for people who have served in military. Does not mention anything about other government employees. Well, I will wait if they approve my application otherwise its $400 down the drain.
I haven't received the Tracking ID from BLS. You can see the update I got from BLS below,

See below response I got from BLS for my email:
"We have received your OCI original documents received at BLS from Consulate general on 26th of September, 2024 .Your application status will reflect on the BLS website in 3-5 working days .
Alternatively, you can collect it from the BLS center to avoid possible delays during transit in between 3:00 Pm to 4:30 Pm (Monday to Friday)"
My wife works with the local government (directly) and her application was approved last year without any concern. Until and unless you work with the Federal govt with a role having access to trade secrets or confidential information I don't think there are any concerns. Hope this helps

Ottawa BLS : Any body with Acknowledgement date beyond Aug 10th and have recieved any update ? Mine is Aug 16th, still shows "Under Process" on OCI Portal.
