Do you guys think it's a good idea to pay for courier instead of picking up in person? I hear the 'delivery window' is only open for 90 minutes or so and there is a good chance that you may not get your turn.
I got citizenship in 2003. Back then renunciation wasn't really a thing. My passport was stamped as "Cancelled upon holder voluntarily acquiring Canadian Citizenship". The OCI application also clearly indicates that they need either the renunciation certificate OR the cancelled passport.
Does anyone know if they were turned back and asked to renounce the passport before OCI could be applied for?
Happy to share my experience for OCI process of my 8 months old son (Canadian by birth)
PS: I am on a closed Work Permit.
Overall timeline is approximately 2 months.
My timeline is as given below:
Purolator pick up for OCI application: 12-Sep-22
BLS portal showing processing at Consulate general(Toronto): 17-Sep-2022
OCI portal- Date of Acknowledgement: 11-Oct-2022

BLS portal-Counter delivery to BLS after OCI stamping (also tracking id generated): 04-Nov-22
OCI received via Purolator drop off: 08-Nov-22
Note: I sent OCI application + Self attested copies of all supporting documents (Nothing in original) via Courier to BLS Brampton.
Postal Application received at BLS Surrey: Sept 15th
Processed by Surrey: Sept 28th (after 2 phone calls)
Date Of Acknowledgment 30-SEP-2022
Registration Status at Mission VANCOUVER
OCI- Number ******
Documents Printing Status PROCESSED On 26-OCT-2022
Dispatched From MEA (OCI ) NEW DELHI On: 29-Oct-2022
Document received At Vancouver On: 29-Oct-2022
BLS Status Update: (Passport ready For Dispatch after OCI stamping) : 01-Nov-2022
OCI Dispatched via Purolator: 10-Nov-2022 (after 2 emails)
So my advice to everyone... keep bugging BLS with phone/emails or they'll sit on your application for weeks.. specially if it's a postal application..
Hi Guys,
I just got my surrender certificate and wanted to apply for OCI. The checklist says I need to send Original Canadian Passport ( as I am opting for Purolator services, no appointments for a few months ).
Question 1 : Do I really need to send in the original ?
Question 2: How long will it take for the whole process as I need to go to India in February.
