No never got an email saying "We started your background check", I check every day for a change since I got the Pre-Arrival letter, and thats how I found out.

Application was received on November 21st and we have so far only received an AOR 1 on January 18th. I have uploaded my background and pcc. We have heard nothing back since. No SA and nothing has changed in ecas or my online account. On the Sponsor's side it still just says application in process. Our VO I believe is Mississauga, but haven't even gotten an e-mail to confirm that. Should we be concerned? I've read other people are way farther in the process with the same application received dates as us?
Aaaaahhh help! I am now having a major stress. My PPR states I have to send my passport (photocopy) plus photos etc to Australia and include a prepaid addressed return envelope/courier satchel.... I've just been to my local post office and they have said that is impossible. Has anyone (especially Kiwis) done this and how did they do it? I wanted to cry, I'm so close but have hit a stumbling block!!!

People in the past have successfully sent their passports overseas: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i.../sending-passports-to-canada-from-usa.272346/
You can try different mail service providers but reliable one that can give you the tracking no. You should be able to get through.
I myself sent my passport from Canada to USA few years ago for some immigration purpose and got it back safely in couple of weeks.
