No such thing as Jan 2nd officially being a holiday.
Also, there is no point in speculating when the changes will be implimented. They may never be. So why post that maybe something will be announced on jan 3rd. Heck, it could be announced any of the weekdays coming up between no and dec 31st this year... or not at all.
Okay.. Just to clarify every one.. I just landed and collected my study permit. They are not providing off campus work permit so.. We need to wait 6 months to apply for one! Take care!

Ok.. Just to clarify every one.. If the proposed changes take effect, A WORK PERMIT WILL NOT BE ISSUED AS A WORK PERMIT WON'T BE NEEDED!

Kiranreddy3399, if the proposed changes does not take effect before you reach your 6 month of studies (not six months of precense in Canada. It's not tha same thing.) you will need to apply for a work permit. If they do take effect before you reach that point, the only thing you need to do is get a SIN number and card. A work permit WILL NOT be needed.
Exactly. You have to wait for 6 months of studies. That means, if you have a break this summer you won't be able to apply for OCWP until november. If the changes come in to effect before that, you don't need to do anything more than getting a SIN card.

i have been starting my program since September 2013. I am worried to take approval from my supervisor to apply for off campus work permit, so if automatic off campus work permit will start, it would be very helpful form me. So, I have to wait for latest news from CIC till spring 2014????

why do u need approval from ur supervisor? and do u mean ur professor? all u need is EVN
