Quick question - I'm not in Canada right now (until end of this month) and I'll be likely receiving the test invite soon. I know we have to send an email to IRCC if we want to do so (Can I take the online test outside Canada? (cic.gc.ca)), but does that slow down the application?

Officially no, unofficially yes. Once you are back raise a request via webform and send your boarding pass as a proof of return.
