From what I read on the CIC website, at 54 you still have to take the test. 55 and older are exempted from the test, but they still need to attend an interview: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...e-canadian-citizen/citizenship-test.html#toc0

I have sent my application in July and not heart from them until October 29 when I got an email acknowledging receipt of my application. it seems it will take another few months until I hear from them again.
