I would simply focus on reading the booklet "Discover Canada" that's available online or you can order it. I don't think there's a need to pay for anything. Additionally it's all multiple choice so it's quite easy if you have read the material to remember the answers.

What do you mean? You access the test online through a link they provide, and it gives you a score (that needs to be verified by the agent that's when you get the official pass/not passed), and they allow you to download the preliminary results.
