you can renew it, your old one will be valid, there is no issue, just attach with the new one. but now a days passport waiting time is too much, apply with urgent fee, and make a deal with an agent then you will get your passport in a week, agent rate is 5000 to 7000 excluding urgent fee.

Dear I am on the same boat. My Passport is expiring on 12th OCT, 2013 and I am planing to land in Jan, 2013 at Calgary. My plan is first give landing, getting PR card, SIN etc and then renew my passport from Consulate General of Pakistan in Canada. As I don't want to take risk of losing my old passport with visa or any delays.

I also received the invitation but its on saturday i.e. 22nd Dec at Hotel Mehran Karachi
You can go on current passport to canada and then u can get ur paki assport renewed at pakistani embassy. It takes 20 working days and the fee is around 68 dollars. Theres nothing to worry about. Plus the visa for canada is one time entry so after entering canada that will be invalid. Ur landing paper/copr will serve as ur immigration proof. Once u get ur pr card u will be able to travel. So even if ur pakistani passport is expiring soon ots nt a big deal, u can renew it in canada.

I got invitation from IOM to attend session on 15th of this month to be held at Lahore. Anyone else going there.

Yes, I will be attending the session, but I thought it was on Sunday, Dec 16th. There could be 2 separate days/sessions.
