If you read the Service Canada website, it actually does say that if one lands inland the SIN will not be issued without the PR card. For someone who lands at a POE, they will issue one immediately with the COPR and passport (+ counterfoil, if not visa exempt). At least this is my interpretation of the following text:

Hey, computergeek

that's interesting, I got my sin# immediately at the immigration office when I landed which was valid to use right away, and few days later the actual social insurance # card came in the mail. so would you think that this is only exclusive to Ontario? i'm not sure about other provinces but it seems its done this way in our local office, i saw another couple who landed and got the sin# right there too.

Sigh. No. It seems to be another example of inconsistency.

I had to go to Service Canada on the Monday after I landed (but I landed outland) and I had no problems - 5 minutes waiting 5 minutes to get the new SIN on a piece of paper. The card showed up about 10 days later.

haha lol, I guess we are lucky then, :)

Hey how did we end up on the second page. Nothing new to say. Just wanted to bump us back to the first page.
But I did just get my health care card in BC. Now I just have to hold off getting sick for 2 weeks until it goes into effect.

Congratulations!

Now you get to pay your premiums - which are going up again on January 1, 2013.

"did you get your card* exactly 3 months after your AIP date?"

It will be around 2.5 months since getting AIP. I have been here 2 years total and should have gotten it immediately I believe. To be fair I mailed in the paperwork and didn't walk it in, so I was at their mercy. I don't even know what the premiums are!
Thanks Kitchener and computergeek!

It is kinda good news that the Inland 2011 is slowing down. People are finally getting things resolved. Last one out please turn out the lights.

Hey, Lab how is it going?

I'm guessing you haven't heard anything?? have you called the call center to see whats going on? I know most of the time they don't give you a proper answer but never hurts to try.
I hope you get your landing before Christmas! it'll be a good Christmas present. :)

Guys, I'm so frustrated.... I called CIC a month ago and they said I should get something about my second stage in December now I called again and they said its gonna be February 1st.

Can someone tell me how I order a foss notes please?

Hello,

My application was received in August 2011, and I received AIP in June 2012.

There has been no additional documents requested, or any any update ever since, other than my medical was received.

I have been calling CIC every week and all they say is that they are still processing my "background checks".

I submitted the police certificate from my home country when I submitted the application.

How many people from 2011 have not received the second stage approval after getting AIP?

Please share your experience with second stage approval, taking longer than 4 months.

PS. Does anyone know why it takes particularly long for some applicants to pass "background checks"?
